About The Portia Learning Centre Inc.

We are founded upon the principle that no child should be denied the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our programming is data driven and we use evidence based methods. Our Senior Therapists are continually upgrading their skill sets according to the latest research via formal course work, advanced workshops, etc.

Our Senior Therapists possess a BA in psychology or equivalent and will all be Board Certified as of July 2012.

Kim Moore, M.ADS, B.A. Psychology, Honours
Clinical Director
Kim Moore co-founded The Portia Learning Centre Inc. in 2006 and she is an associate of Establishing Operations Inc. Since beginning as a private consultant in 1999, Moore has gained extensive experience working as a behaviour analyst for both children with autism and typically developing children with severe behavioural disorders. Ms. Moore has worked with families in Canada, Europe, the United States and Asia. View resume

Charlene Gervais, M.ADS, B.A. Honours
Senior Therapist
Ms. Gervais began working in the field of IBI in 2003. She has completed the Master of Disability Studies at Brock University and is under supversion by Cherish Twigg, M.S., BCBA for certification. She is a Member in good standing of the International Association of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certified Instructors (IANCICI). View resume

Julie Hurley McIsaac, M.A.
Development Therapist
Ms McIsaac has a Master's degree in Child Development from Tufts University. She is currently working towards her Ph.D. degree from the ICDL Graduate School in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health and Developmental Disorders. Julie has worked with clients in the U.S. and Canada. View resume

 

Our team of Instructor Therapists are highly trained, dedicated individuals who strive for excellence every day. Personal development through continuing education is key for all our staff.

The Centres

We have three locations to better serve our community. Our Centre-based program provides a stable learning environment where program supervisors are able to view the child's development on a daily basis as each child progresses. (We offer programming in school, pre-school and home based.)

News & Events

October 29, 2011
The students and staff of Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School hosted the 1st Annual Halloween with Derek event. Derek is the 4 year old son of one of the teachers on staff who has been diagnosed with autism. Derek's father will be running in the New York City Marathon on behalf of his son a week after the event. All proceeds for the event will go to support autism programmes in the Ottawa area (Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre and the Portia Learning Centre)

The "First Year Tackle Box", a guide for parents of newly diagnosed children with autism spectrum disorder is in stock! Parents can pick up a FREE copy at all Portia centres. Copies of this book will also be distributed to doctor's offices, Support Groups, Autism Ontario Chapters throughout the Ottawa - Kingston Region.

The Portia Learning Centre Outreach Program is an opportunity for parents to discuss autism treatment, symptoms and seek assistance with behaviours.
