Kim Moore, M.ADS, Clinical Director of The Portia Learning Centre Inc has 12 years experience in working with children with ASD, with varying levels of ability. Her experience is in Verbal Behaviour, PRT, Floortime/DIR, Lovaas, and is well versed in the evidence based trends of ABA. She has advanced training in Verbal Behaviour by Establishing Operations Inc. and has her Masters in Applied Disability Studies. Kim believes there is not a “one size fits all” approach and each program must be child specific, approaches can be integrated and that individual children and families need difference kinds of support at different points in their development.

We believe that every child can reach his or her full potential by learning through motivation. The key focus of our IBI program is finding what is fun for the learner and using that activity to teach each new skill. Our comprehensive verbal behaviour program teaches the core elements of socialization, communication, play skill, academic skill and many other skills necessary to succeed in school and the community. Parent involvement is the cornerstone of our program and involves increasing interaction with your child as well as learning important techniques to maximize learning in the home and the community and ensure generalization. Parents are provided with hands on training in the home, opportunities to observe live sessions, participate in workshops and attend monthly progress meetings. Working together with parents, educators and professionals in all areas of the child's life we continuously strive to enable a better future for our children.

Advanced learners have the opportunity to work on the foundation of skills required for maximum academic success.

Our comprehensive program follows a developmental curriculum for children of all ages starting at 0-18 months. Skills are assessed and a curriculum is developed with a focus on communication (conversation, joint attention, requesting, etc.) as well as several other skill areas that are also a focus including; socialization, visual skills, academics and many more.

Learning in our program takes place through finding what motivates the child (fun games, books, movies, popcorn) and then using that to teach necessary skills. We focus on teaching within a fun learning environment in order to help keep children motivated to learn and enjoy learning.

We employ a continuous improvement model for both ourselves and the child's programs; where required, incremental changes to a program are made on a daily basis. These changes are always based upon sound evidence based practices and leading research principles.

"Effective programming and early intervention is key. But what is essential is parent involvement in the programming. Research has repeatedly demonstrated this to be true."

-Kim Moore, Clinical Director
