Core Clinical Service Options Overview
Every family comes to Portia with different questions, goals, and levels of support. Explore our
clinical services below, or connect with our intake team if you’re not sure where to start.

ABA Programs
Individualized ABA support that grows with your child. Every child has different strengths, needs, and goals. We offer different levels of ABA support so your child’s program can be tailored to what they need, from focused support in a specific area to more comprehensive therapy across multiple areas of development. Your child’s program is developed and overseen by a Registered Behaviour Analyst, with progress regularly reviewed so goals and teaching strategies can evolve as your child learns and grows.
Parent Support & Guidance
Practical support for the everyday challenges of parenting. Meet one-on-one with a Registered Behaviour Analyst to talk through your concerns, problem-solve challenges, and develop practical strategies that fit your family. Sessions can focus on routines, transitions, behaviour, school advocacy, family relationships, or simply helping you feel more confident about what to do next.

Life Skills
Building independence in the routines that matter every day. From toileting and dressing to hygiene, mealtimes, household routines, and community skills, we help children build greater independence in everyday life. We look at what may be making a skill difficult and create an individualized approach based on your child’s abilities, needs, and learning style.
ABA Academic Support
Where individualized academic support meets ABA expertise. In partnership with TutorBright, our ABA Academic Support Program combines individualized academic tutoring with the clinical oversight of a Registered Behaviour Analyst. Programs can support academic learning alongside skills such as attention, executive functioning, emotional regulation, independence, and learning readiness.

Mental Health & Psychological Services
Supporting emotional well-being for children, youth, and families. Our mental health team provides individualized psychotherapy and psychological support for children, youth, and families navigating emotional, behavioural, developmental, and relationship challenges. Services may support areas such as anxiety, emotional regulation, family relationships, life transitions, and mental wellness, with opportunities for collaboration with your child’s ABA team when appropriate.
Consultative Services
Clinical expertise for schools, professionals, and collaborative care teams. Our Registered Behaviour Analysts provide consultation, education, training, clinical supervision, and collaborative support to professionals and organizations supporting children with autism and developmental needs. Services can include professional training, clinical oversight, and collaboration with educators, therapists, and other members of a child’s care team.

Our Core Clinical Services Methodology
When a child enrolls in our program, they receive a comprehensive skill and function based assessment. This detailed evaluation helps us understand your child’s unique strengths and areas for growth across all developmental domains. Our assessments include:
- Language and communication skills
- Social and play skills
- Daily living and adaptive skills
- Learning readiness
- Behaviour patterns
This thorough assessment provides the foundation for developing an effective, personalized treatment plan.
Following your child’s comprehensive assessment, our experienced Registered Behaviour Analysts develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your family’s unique needs and goals. We don’t follow a one-size-fits-all approach – instead, we create individualized programming that addresses your child’s specific strengths and areas for growth.
Our treatment planning process includes:
- Goal Setting & Prioritization: Working closely with your family to establish meaningful, achievable goals that matter most to your child’s daily life, whether that’s improving communication, developing social skills, mastering daily routines, or reducing challenging behaviours.
- Naturalistic Program Design: Unlike some ABA approaches, our programs are designed around your child’s natural interests and motivations. We embed learning opportunities into play and everyday activities, making therapy engaging and meaningful rather than repetitive or rigid.
- Family-Centered Approach: Your input drives the planning process. We consider your family’s routines, preferences, and priorities to ensure the treatment plan works in real-life settings – at home, school, and in the community.
- Multidisciplinary Integration: When appropriate, we collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to create a comprehensive plan that addresses all aspects of your child’s development.
- Flexible Programming: Plans are designed to evolve with your child. As they master skills and grow, we adjust goals and approaches to ensure continued progress and challenge.
Our skilled therapists bring your child’s treatment plan to life through compassionate, evidence-based ABA techniques that prioritize positive reinforcement and natural learning opportunities. Every session is designed to feel engaging and fun while systematically building essential skills.
- Play-Based Learning Environment: We use your child’s natural interests and motivations to create learning opportunities. Whether they love trains, books, or sensory play, we embed skill-building into activities that capture their attention and enthusiasm.
- Naturalistic Teaching Methods: Rather than drilling skills in isolation, we teach within the context of meaningful activities. Communication goals might be practiced during snack time, social skills during group play, and daily living skills during regular routines.
- Positive Reinforcement Focus: We create willing learners by making therapy rewarding and enjoyable. Our approach emphasizes celebrating successes, building confidence, and fostering a love of learning rather than relying on punishment or rigid compliance.
- Skilled Therapeutic Intervention: Our team receives extensive training in naturalistic developmental behavioral interventions. This ensures they can provide effective teaching that looks like play but delivers measurable results – a skill that requires expertise and experience.
- Environmental Modifications: We thoughtfully arrange learning environments to support success, using visual supports, structured activities, and sensory considerations to help your child thrive.
- Generalization Support: Skills learned in therapy are practiced across different settings, people, and situations to ensure your child can use them in real life – at home, school, and in the community.
We use our custom-developed Portia ABA Clinic Software to provide transparent, real-time tracking of your child’s progress. This innovative technology allows our therapists to focus more time on teaching while giving families unprecedented visibility into their child’s development.
- Real-Time Data Collection: During each session, therapists collect data on your child’s skill development, behavior patterns, and learning progress. This information is immediately available through our secure parent portal.
- Visual Progress Reports: Complex data is transformed into easy-to-understand visual reports that clearly show your child’s growth over time. You can see exactly how they’re progressing toward their goals and where they’re excelling.
- Regular Program Reviews: Our team conducts monthly progress meetings to review data, celebrate achievements, and adjust programming as needed. These collaborative sessions ensure your child’s plan continues to meet their evolving needs.
- Goal Mastery Tracking: We track progress toward specific, measurable goals so you can see concrete evidence of your child’s skill development. When goals are mastered, we celebrate the achievement and introduce new challenges.
- Timely Program Adjustments: Because we collect data continuously, we can quickly identify when strategies need modification or when your child is ready for new challenges. This responsive approach maximizes learning opportunities.
- Parent Portal Access: Through our secure online portal, you can view session notes, progress graphs, and upcoming goals anytime. This transparency keeps you informed and engaged in your child’s therapy journey.
- Outcome Measurement: We track not just skill acquisition but also the meaningful impact on your child’s daily life – improved communication at home, better behavior at school, increased independence in daily activities.
We believe that lasting progress happens when families are empowered with the knowledge and skills to support their child’s development in all environments. Our comprehensive parent training program ensures that the strategies used in therapy extend seamlessly into your daily life. We also provide ABA downloads and resources for parents and their children to work on at home.
- Hands-On Parent Coaching: Our experienced therapists provide practical, hands-on training that teaches you the same techniques we use in sessions. You’ll learn how to create learning opportunities, use positive reinforcement effectively, and respond to challenging behaviors with confidence.
- Individualized Family Support: Every family’s situation is unique. Whether you’re dealing with mealtime challenges, bedtime routines, or public outings, we tailor our training to address your specific concerns and priorities.
- Extended Family Inclusion: We offer training for siblings, grandparents, caregivers, and anyone important in your child’s life. Consistency across all relationships helps reinforce skills and creates a supportive network for your child.
- Home and Community Generalization: We work with you to practice skills in your natural environment – your home, neighborhood, and community settings. This ensures your child can use their new abilities in real-life situations.
- School Collaboration: When appropriate, we collaborate with your child’s educational team to ensure consistency between home, therapy, and school. This unified approach maximizes your child’s success across all environments.
- Ongoing Support and Guidance: Family training isn’t a one-time event. We provide ongoing coaching, answer questions as they arise, and adjust strategies as your child grows and develops new skills.
- Crisis Support: We’re here to help when challenging situations arise. Our team provides guidance for managing difficult behaviors and supports you through the ups and downs of your child’s development journey.
- Empowerment Through Education: We help you understand the ‘why’ behind our strategies so you feel confident adapting techniques to new situations and continuing to support your child’s growth long-term.
